TBRI® Trauma-Informed Training

Your Caregiving.

Transform

Trauma-informed care is essential for helping children and families thrive, especially those who have experienced adversity. Trust-Based Relational Intervention® (TBRI®) is an evidence-based approach that empowers caregivers with the tools, insights, and skills to respond to the unique needs of children affected by trauma.

WHAT is TBRI®?

TBRI® is a holistic, trauma-informed caregiving model developed by Dr. Karyn Purvis and Dr. David Cross at the TCU Institute of Child Development. It integrates principles from attachment theory, neuroscience, and the psychology of development to create a safe, nurturing environment for children to heal and thrive. The approach recognizes that trauma impacts not only behavior but also the brain, emotions, and relationships—requiring a specialized approach to caregiving.

WHy TBRI®?

TBRI® has a proven track record of improving the emotional and behavioral well-being of children who have experienced trauma, including neglect, abuse, loss, and displacement. It helps caregivers form stronger, more secure attachments with children, fostering resilience and healing. Whether you're a parent, foster parent, teacher, social worker, or counselor, TBRI® equips you with the tools to meet children's needs with empathy and understanding.

"I think we knew that we were desperately in need of some support and some tools, but we didn't even realize how badly we needed them until we had TBRI® and we had something REAL to hold on to. Something real to try in our home. It's a whole paradigm shift in how we think about parenting, and how we think about caring, and connecting and meeting the needs of our children."

Practioners

Our

Our team of TBRI® Practitioner Trainers are passionate and dedicated foster and adoptive parents and/or professionals working directly with children who have experienced foster care. Practitioners have been formally trained by the Karen Purvis Institute of Child Development in Fort Worth, Texas and bring to every session a deep belief in the power of relational connection as a healing force. Drawing on both their professional training and personal experience, trainers first guide participants to a deeper understanding of trauma and its impact on young minds and bodies and then provide practical strategies for building trust, enhancing attachment, and effectively managing challenging behaviors in children who have experienced trauma or adversity. Each trainer speaks with honesty and authenticity as they continue to learn and apply these principles within their own homes and/or child welfare professions.
